MDT 860

18 October 2007 – Navman Wireless OEM Solutions Introduces New Mobile Data Terminal

FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif. Oct 18 2007- Navman Wireless OEM Solutions, a leading designer and manufacturer of world-class global positioning system (GPS) technology, announced today the addition of a new advanced Mobile Data Terminal, the MDT 860. Designed to allow easy integration into telematics solutions with an external GPS, the MDT 860 allows system integrators to develop customized communication systems for a wide variety of industrial and commercial uses.

Suitable for both outdoor and low-light environments, the MDT 860 offers a wide viewing angle and incorporates a transflective, high-resolution LCD display with variable level backlighting. Twenty-one programmable keys and a four-way cursor provide a variety of input options. The MDT 860 offers a limitless range of powerful customization possibilities for solution providers. Telemetry devices, modems, RFID readers, barcode scanners, swipe card readers, PLCs and printers, are just a few of the technologies that can be easily and cost-effectively integrated with this advanced Navman Wireless MDT. Designed for durability and reliability, the MDT 860 is capable of enduring the vibration and thermal extremes commonly found in mobile environments. The MDT860 also incorporates a built-in power supply regulator capable of operating in a wide variety of vehicles, and eliminates issues associated with cable distance by offering two serial ports and a user selectable RS232 or RS485 format.

Providing a truly versatile programming architecture, the MDT 860 allows programmers to create easy-to-use menus for pre-defined messages, alerts, variable backlighting or expand to complex algorithms for data logging and on the fly processing. A variable-volume enunciator can also be programmed to alert operators to incoming messages. A robust solution for sending, receiving, storing messages or processing data, the MDT 860 is up to the task of handling communication requirements within a global economy. Equipped with a built-in multi-lingual font library, the Navman Wireless device enables communication via text messaging in countries throughout the world.

“The new Navman Wireless MDT 860 offers our customers the ability to develop communication system feature sets to meet their specific application needs,” said George Arnott, vice president Global OEM Solutions, Navman Wireless. “In addition, using our robust text communication solution, we can now offer support for a wider variety of customers then every before.”

An MDT 860 Software Development Kit (SDK) offers system integrators a flexible environment for custom application development to meet specific mobile data requirements. Packaged with a conversion utility to allow applications requiring images to be updated to the new C-based format, the MDT supports a range of graphical operations as well as bitmap fonts. The MDT contains robust FLASH memory large enough to handle complex programming tasks, and existing Navman Wireless MDT 850 applications using the BDF font system can be easily modified with an included tool to make better use of the 860’s higher resolution screen and numeric keypad.
