Navigation technology leader unveils integrated GPS receiver module with antenna

FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif. – Navman, a leading designer and manufacturer of world-class global positioning system (GPS), communication and marine products and components, announced today the latest addition to its highly successful GPS module product line: the Jupiter 110. The new Jupiter 110 is a 12-channel GPS receiver and patch antenna with a small form factor and low power consumption. The new Navman module offers Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) a complete and easy-to-implement solution for extending the capability of devices such as PDAs, smart phones or any electronic equipment, to include accurate position location.

With on board flash memory, and available with both ultra-high sensitivity SiRF XTrac™ software and a secondary self-switching external RF connector, the Jupiter 110 provides maximum installation flexibility while minimizing OEM industrial design iterations. The Navman module incorporates optimized RF layout, full shielding and locking digital connectors to ensure maximum GPS performance in all environmental and installation conditions.

“With the introduction of our new feature-packed Jupiter 110 we are making it easier than ever for manufacturers of consumer electronics to extend the functionality of their products,” said George Arnott, vice president of Navman’s OEM Division. “We are so confident with the Jupiter 110 design that our consumer products division has incorporated it into our new Navman PiN 570 GPS-enabled Pocket PC and iCN 320 personal portable navigation devices.”

Key features of the Jupiter 110 include: state-of-the-art algorithms for optimized urban environment tracking, low-power consumption (75 mA) and advanced power management options to maximize battery power use, upgradeable Flash memory and user selectable WAAS/EGNOS DGPS compatibility. Additional capabilities include: 12 simultaneous satellite tracking capability, horizontal accuracy better than 3.0m (CEP) and vertical accuracy better than 6.0m (VEP). Acquisition performance is 6 seconds (hot start), 38 seconds (warm start) and 45 seconds (with valid almanac only). Position re-acquisition is 100 milliseconds. Physical characteristics: 39 mm x 34 mm x 6 mm form factor and 9.5 g (typical) weight. Environmental specifications: operating temperature range is –40°C to +85°C, 95% non-condensing humidity, -300m to 1800m altitude and 18 G’s peak shock (5 ms non-operating).
