Technology Tackles Fleet Maintenance Obligations

Employers' legal obligation to ensure their fleet vehicles are road worthy can now be fulfilled with the help of a new reporting application from Navman Wireless.

Maintenance Scheduling, which helps employers fulfil their Duty of Care to staff, is a powerful addition to Navman Wireless's OnlineAVL2 vehicle tracking software system.

With the aid of onscreen indicators, employers can track all maintenance needs, including oil changes, MOTs, insurance, tax and servicing requirements.

Detailed reports or summaries of fleet maintenance activities can be displayed while users can pre-set warning periods for alerts on fleet service needs. Managers can also specify how data is reported - by date, number of miles or days on the road for example.

"This free sophisticated tool enables businesses to keep their drivers safe and ensures that all their legal requirements are met," said Tony Neill, Vice President Europe, Middle East and Africa, Navman Wireless.

"What's more, by keeping businesses updated on lease vehicle mileage, costly fines for overruns can be avoided."

The Maintenance Scheduling feature is complimented with an Email Reporting facility, enabling users to receive relevant fleet information directly to their email address.

The need for Maintenance Scheduling has become all the more pertinent in wake of the Corporate Manslaughter Act which came into force in April. Employers can now be prosecuted for Corporate Manslaughter if it can be proved that negligence in their Duty of Care obligations caused a death.
