A NEW system which allows temperature-sensitive produce to be monitored while in transit has been launched.
The software, unveiled by Navman Wireless, the UK's largest manufacturer of tracking, messaging and navigation equipment, will allow fleet operators to monitor the temperature of cargo - live - from their PC.
It generates detailed daily or weekly temperature reading reports. These provide substantial evidence to back up any possible discrepancies which may arise between users and their customers.
Tony Neill, Navman Wireless Executive Vice President, said: "This technology will be a welcome addition to any fleet carrying goods that must remain at specific temperatures.
"It will give companies transporting anything from food to flowers to pharmaceuticals or the transportation of live animals a renewed confidence that goods have been delivered at the correct controlled temperature - and in turn their customers will have the peace of mind that goods arrive in perfect condition."
The Navman Wireless technology has been developed in conjunction with leading temperature recording firm Euroscan.
Mr Neill added: "It is a very easy product to use. Simply by hovering over a vehicle you can check what the temperature of the cargo is at any given time."
Alerts can also be set up to notify users, by email or software 'pop-ups', if a temperature rises or falls beyond individually-set parameters - or even when doors are opened or closed.
Transport firms, including national companies, have been quick to introduce the new software to their fleet, following its development.
Temperature monitoring is available on Navman Wireless's latest OnlineAVL2 system, and complies with all national and international guidelines.
